Customers in Egypt can pay from the mobile wallets that Egyptian banks and mobile operators offer. Payrails processes nine of these wallets through Boku as the payment service provider (PSP). Each wallet has its own paymentMethodCode, and all nine use the same flow and request fields.

How an Egyptian mobile wallet payment works

Egyptian mobile wallets are redirect payment methods:
  1. The customer selects their wallet at checkout.
  2. Payrails returns a redirect URL from Boku, and the customer goes to the Boku payment page.
  3. The customer confirms the payment with their wallet.
  4. Boku sends the customer back to your returnInfo URL.
  5. Payrails receives the final result from Boku and updates the payment.
Each payment is single-use: the customer confirms every payment on its own. Payrails captures these payments immediately, so a successful payment is final. To return funds, refund the payment.

Supported currencies and countries

Egyptian mobile wallets support EGP (Egyptian pound) as their presentment currency.

Supported workflows

Before you begin

Complete these steps before you send your first Egyptian mobile wallet payment through Boku:
  1. Set up a Boku integration in your workspace. Contact your Payrails account team if Boku isn’t listed in your Payrails Portal yet.
  2. Ask Boku to enable the wallets you want to accept on your Boku merchant account.
  3. In the Payrails Portal, go to Settings → Integrations, open your Boku integration, select each wallet under Payment methods, and save.
  4. Add each wallet as a payment option in your workflow.

Request fields for Boku

Send these fields in the authorize request, in addition to the standard authorize fields. Payrails checks Required fields and returns an error when one is missing. Fields required by the PSP pass the Payrails checks but the PSP can decline the payment without them.

Authorize an Egyptian mobile wallet payment

Call authorize a payment with the wallet’s code as the paymentMethodCode. This example uses Orange Cash. The response includes the redirect to the Boku payment page.
Authorize request
After the customer confirms the payment, Boku returns them to your success or error URL. Confirm the result through webhook notifications or the execution status before you fulfill the order.

How Boku handles Egyptian mobile wallets

  • Payrails sends every one of these wallets to Boku as the same Boku payment method. The customer completes the payment with their chosen wallet on the Boku payment page.
  • Boku notifies Payrails of the final result, and Payrails can also query the payment status with Boku.
  • To refund a payment, send meta.customer.country.code on the refund request too. Payrails uses it to reach the Boku endpoint for the country.
