SafetyPay is a payment method in Latin America that lets customers pay without a card. Payrails processes SafetyPay for customers in Peru through Worldpay.

How a SafetyPay payment works

SafetyPay is a redirect payment method that can complete after the customer returns:
  1. The customer selects SafetyPay at checkout.
  2. Payrails returns a redirect URL from Worldpay, and the customer goes to SafetyPay.
  3. The customer confirms the payment with SafetyPay.
  4. SafetyPay sends the customer back to your returnInfo URL.
  5. Payrails receives the final result from Worldpay and updates the payment.
The customer can return before the money arrives. In that case the payment stays pending until Worldpay sends the final status by webhook. Payrails captures SafetyPay payments immediately, so a successful payment is final.

Supported currencies and countries

Payrails sends the currency and billing country you provide to Worldpay without checking them first. Worldpay rejects a pairing that SafetyPay doesn’t support.

Supported workflows

Before you begin

Complete these steps before you send your first SafetyPay payment through Worldpay:
  1. Set up a Worldpay integration in your workspace. Contact your Payrails account team if Worldpay isn’t listed in your Payrails Portal yet.
  2. Ask Worldpay to enable SafetyPay on your Worldpay entity.
  3. In the Payrails Portal, go to Settings → Integrations, open your Worldpay integration, select SafetyPay under Payment methods, and save.
  4. Add SafetyPay as a payment option in your workflow.

Request fields for Worldpay

Send these fields in the authorize request, in addition to the standard authorize fields. Payrails checks Required fields and returns an error when one is missing. Fields required by the PSP pass the Payrails checks but the PSP can decline the payment without them.

Authorize a SafetyPay payment

Call authorize a payment with safetyPay as the paymentMethodCode. The response includes the redirect to SafetyPay.
Authorize request
After the customer confirms the payment, SafetyPay returns them to your success or error URL. Confirm the result through webhook notifications or the execution status before you fulfill the order.

How Worldpay handles SafetyPay

  • Worldpay doesn’t add a payment status to the return URL for SafetyPay. Payrails reads the result from the return path instead: success, pending, or cancel.
  • When the customer returns with a pending result, Payrails doesn’t wait on the redirect. The Worldpay webhook sets the final status.
  • Payrails reads the customer’s email from meta.order.billingAddress.email, not from meta.customer.email. Payrails doesn’t send the customer’s name for SafetyPay.
  • Save Instruments and merchant-initiated transactions (MIT) aren’t available for SafetyPay through Worldpay.
