PhonePe is a mobile wallet in India. Customers approve the payment in the PhonePe app instead of entering card details. Payrails processes PhonePe through Unlimit as the payment service provider (PSP).

How a PhonePe payment works

PhonePe is an app-based wallet payment method:
  1. The customer selects PhonePe at checkout.
  2. Payrails returns a redirect from Unlimit. It opens the PhonePe app through a deep link, or the Unlimit payment page when Unlimit returns only a page URL.
  3. The customer approves the payment in the PhonePe app.
  4. The customer returns to your returnInfo URL.
  5. Unlimit sends the result to Payrails, and Payrails updates the payment.
Each payment is single-use: the customer approves every payment on its own. Payrails captures PhonePe payments immediately, so a successful payment is final. To return funds, refund the payment.

Supported currencies and countries

PhonePe supports INR (Indian rupee) as its only presentment currency.

Integrate PhonePe

Choose the PSP that processes PhonePe for you. The guide covers the PSP-side setup, the Payrails configuration and the request fields that PSP requires.

Ways to integrate PhonePe

  • Payrails SDK: the Web SDK shows PhonePe when your workflow returns it as a payment option.
  • Payrails API: call lookup payment options, then authorize with phonePe as the paymentMethodCode. The PSP guide lists the meta fields that PSP requires.
In both cases, confirm the final result through webhook notifications or the execution status.
