Amazon Pay is a digital wallet that lets customers check out with their Amazon account. Customers pay with the payment methods and addresses already saved in that account, so they don’t type in their payment details. Payrails processes Amazon Pay through Stripe. Pick the PSP below for its setup steps and request examples.

How an Amazon Pay payment works

Amazon Pay is a wallet redirect payment method:
  1. The customer selects Amazon Pay at checkout.
  2. Payrails returns a redirect URL from the PSP, and the customer goes to Amazon.
  3. The customer signs in to Amazon and confirms the payment.
  4. Amazon sends the customer back to your returnInfo URL.
  5. Payrails receives the final result from the PSP and updates the payment.
Each payment is single-use: the customer confirms every payment on its own. Amazon Pay supports separate authorization and capture: capture the payment immediately or later, or cancel an authorization you haven’t captured. To return funds after capture, refund the payment.

Supported currencies and countries

Amazon Pay supports these presentment currencies through Stripe — CHF, DKK, EUR, GBP, HUF, JPY, NOK, SEK, and USD.

Ways to integrate Amazon Pay

  • Payrails SDK: the Web SDK shows Amazon Pay when your workflow returns it as a payment option, and redirects the customer to Amazon. To control how the redirect opens, listen for the actionRequired event.
  • Payrails API: call lookup payment options, then authorize with amazonPay as the paymentMethodCode. The PSP guide lists the meta fields that PSP requires.
In both cases, confirm the final result through webhook notifications or the execution status. Don’t treat the customer’s return to your success URL as proof of payment.
