Bizum is a mobile payment method in Spain, backed by Spanish banks. Customers pay with the phone number linked to their bank account and approve each payment in their banking app. Payrails processes Bizum through Checkout.com.

How a Bizum payment works

Bizum is a notification-driven payment method. The customer stays on your checkout, with no redirect:
  1. The customer selects Bizum at checkout, and you send their phone number in the authorize request.
  2. Payrails creates the payment at Checkout.com, and the payment stays pending.
  3. The customer approves the payment in their banking app.
  4. Checkout.com sends the final result to Payrails as a webhook notification, and Payrails updates the payment.
Each payment is single-use: the customer approves every payment on its own. Payrails captures Bizum payments immediately, so a successful payment is final. To return funds, refund the payment.

Supported currencies and countries

Bizum supports EUR (euro) as its only presentment currency.

Integrate Bizum

Ways to integrate Bizum

  • Payrails SDK: the Web SDK shows Bizum when your workflow returns it as a payment option.
  • Payrails API: call lookup payment options, then authorize with bizum as the paymentMethodCode. The PSP guide lists the meta fields that PSP requires.
In both cases, confirm the final result through webhook notifications or the execution status.
