Korean Local Cards let customers in South Korea pay with cards from South Korean issuers, such as Shinhan, Hyundai, and Samsung Card. The customer picks their card issuer and confirms the payment on a hosted page, so you don’t collect card details. Payrails processes Korean Local Cards through Stripe. Pick the PSP below for its setup steps and request examples.

How a Korean Local Cards payment works

Korean Local Cards use a redirect payment flow:
  1. The customer selects Korean Local Cards at checkout.
  2. Payrails returns a redirect URL from the PSP, and the customer goes to the page of the PSP’s local processing partner.
  3. The customer selects their card issuer and confirms the payment.
  4. The customer returns to your returnInfo URL.
  5. Payrails receives the final result from the PSP and updates the payment.
Payrails captures Korean Local Cards payments immediately, so a successful payment is final. To return funds, refund the payment.

Supported currencies and countries

Korean Local Cards support KRW (South Korean won) as the only presentment currency. KRW has no decimal places, so send amounts such as "50000".

Ways to integrate Korean Local Cards

  • Payrails SDK: the Web SDK shows Korean Local Cards when your workflow returns them as a payment option, and redirects the customer to the issuer selection page. To control how the redirect opens, listen for the actionRequired event.
  • Payrails API: call lookup payment options, then authorize with krCard as the paymentMethodCode. The PSP guide lists the meta fields that PSP requires.
In both cases, confirm the final result through webhook notifications or the execution status. Don’t treat the customer’s return to your success URL as proof of payment.
