UPI via Boku

Accept UPI payments from customers in India with Boku as the payment service provider (PSP). The customer goes to a Boku-hosted page, approves the payment in their UPI app and returns to your site.

Supported workflows

Before you begin

Complete these steps before you send your first UPI payment through Boku:

Set up a Boku integration in your workspace. Contact your Payrails account team if Boku isn’t listed in your Payrails Portal yet.
Ask Boku to enable UPI on your Boku merchant account.
In the Payrails Portal, go to Settings → Integrations, open your Boku integration, select UPI under Payment methods, and save.
Add UPI as a payment option in your workflow.

Request fields for Boku

Send these fields in the authorize request, in addition to the standard authorize fields. Payrails checks Required fields and returns an error when one is missing. Fields required by the PSP pass the Payrails checks but the PSP can decline the payment without them.

Field	Status	Description
`amount.currency`	Required by Boku	Send `INR`. Payrails passes the currency to Boku unchanged.
`meta.customer.country.code`	Required	Send `IN`. Payrails uses it to route the request to Boku’s India endpoint.
`meta.order.description`	Required	Between 1 and 255 characters. Sent to Boku as the item description.
`meta.clientContext`	Required	Send the client context object on every request. Payrails reads it to detect a mobile device.
`meta.clientContext.ipAddress`	Recommended	Sent to Boku as the customer’s IP address.
`meta.clientContext.osType`, `meta.clientContext.userAgent`	Recommended	Used to detect a mobile device. On mobile, Boku shows its mobile payment flow.
`meta.customer.reference`	Optional	Sent to Boku as your customer ID.

Authorize a UPI payment

Call authorize a payment with upi as the paymentMethodCode. The response includes the redirect to the Boku payment page.

After the customer approves the payment, Boku returns them to your success or error URL. Confirm the result through webhook notifications or the execution status before you fulfill the order.

How Boku handles UPI

Boku charges UPI payments immediately, so a successful payment is already captured.
Payrails sends full and partial refunds to Boku as a refund of the original charge.
Boku doesn’t return a reusable token for UPI, so Save Instruments and merchant-initiated transactions (MIT) aren’t available.
