Getting Started

Learn about how Payrails' Payouts works and the key features.

Introduction

Payrails offers a modular and agnostic payout infrastructure designed to scale with the evolving needs of enterprise merchants. Unlike conventional solutions that tightly couple functionality to individual providers, Payrails abstracts provider-specific logic behind a unified orchestration layer. This modular design allows for flexible integration with multiple payout providers (starting with Nium and Checkout.com) and enables merchants to scale, plug in, and switch providers without reengineering their internal systems.

What sets Payrails apart is its long-term vision of becoming an intelligence-driven operating system across multiple partners. The platform can dynamically route each payout based on real-time business logic—factoring in cost, region, currency, success rate, and merchant preferences. As a result, Payrails enables merchants to optimize for speed, compliance, and cost-efficiency with every transaction.

Key Features

  • Global Reach: Enable merchants to send payouts across countries and currencies using a single integration.
  • Compliance by Design: Automatically enforce country- and currency-specific field requirements.
  • Modular and Scalable: Phase-based rollout supporting both bank and card payouts, with a roadmap toward supporting any PSP.
  • Agnostic Architecture: Built to support multiple PSPs under a single abstract interface, easing maintenance and switching costs.
  • Real-time Visibility: Webhook-based status updates and dashboard tracking for merchants.
  • Optimized Source Selection: Dynamically select the most appropriate funding source to improve speed and reduce FX exposure. Dynamically select the most appropriate funding source to improve speed and reduce FX exposure.
  • Intelligent Routing (Future): Payouts can be routed in real time to the best-performing or most cost-effective provider based on merchant-defined rules.

How it works

Payouts in Payrails are managed as a workflow, just like payment acceptance or fraud management.

You configure your provider(s) of your choice in the Payrails system, configure your workflow, and then execute your workflow when you want to initiate a payout request.
